A wise man once said, “The value of consistent prayer is not that He will hear us, but that we will hear Him.”

Prayer for me is soaking in the presence of my heavenly Father.  It is where I talk, but also listen.  Pour out my heart, but also open up my heart for Him to work.  When I am consistently in prayer with God daily, I hear Him in many ways.  Prayer provides purpose, powerful perspective and a path for my life.

Being with God truly awakens my purpose.  As a mom of four who educates her kids at home, it is easy to get caught up in the urgent, day to day tasks.  Interruptions can become hassles instead of opportunities and demands that upset the routine become an inconvenience instead of an assignment.  But prayer changes this, or better yet, it changes me and helps me recognize that I have a purpose for being here and that is to seek Him first daily and bring Him glory and honor with whatever I am doing.

Prayer time provides powerful perspective. God’s perspective. It is powerful because my Shepherd opens my eyes to perceive things I wouldn’t on my own and He works through me to perform what needs to be done.  Things I would not do on my own!  The words I share, the things I do with and for others, the things I notice could only come from the mighty presence of the Lord, and for the glory of the Lord.

Spending time with my Shepherd supplies a path for my life.  John 10:3 says, “He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”  He sheds light on the path before me for the day.  His Word says He has good works for me to do that He prepared in advance.  Trustworthy and faithful, His voice is the one that guides me on this path.  I am where I need to be, doing His work, in His strength for His Kingdom.

Hearing God’s voice is not only possible, but life changing.  It has changed mine.  He deserves our time so we can know our purpose, have His powerful perspective and follow His path for His glory.
