John Vandervoort

John and his wife Julie have been married for 23 years. They have three children, Rebecca (19) who is a Freshman at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI, Jake (16) a junior in High School, and Ben (12) 7th grade. Their family has been attending gracespring (aka RBC) since 1997.

John was blessed to have loving and godly parents, who were his primary influencers during childhood. He made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 10 or so. Although he doesn't entirely recall his motivation at the time, there was certainly an element of "fire insurance" behind his decision. Although sincere in that early decision to follow Christ, he would characterize his view of Jesus more as Savior, than as Lord. During college, he realized that he was the double minded man that James speaks of, calling himself a Christian, but living a selfish and self-centered life. The summer between sophomore and junior years, with the help and prodding of a group of godly friends, he recommitted his life to Christ. John endeavors to serve HIM, to the best of his ability, and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

John has served as an elder at RBC/Gracespring in the 2010-2016 time frame. He has served in a number of other roles over the years, including: SOLO (singles group) mentor and praise band member; facilities committee; Easter factory volunteer; chair of GBC constitution revision committee; pre-marital counselor; marriage conference committee; and aging member of the GBC softball team.

John currently serves on the First Impressions Team as a greeter. He and Julie are Baptism Hosts. He is also a table leader for the men's Fight Club meetings and a co-leader of their community group.

John's wife Julie is committed to supporting and encouraging John in this role.
