Pregnancy Care Center
Alternatives exists to promote the value of human life by serving the unborn and their families through the love of Jesus Christ. We give you the opportunity to explore and discuss information concerning each of these options. We're here to support and help you through any confusion and uncertainty that you may be experiencing as you face an unplanned pregnancy. Alternatives provides a free pregnancy tests with immediate results, free ultrasounds for women who have received a positive pregnancy test, and free chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV screening. We are committed to offering classes that will enrich your parenting experience and enhance your skills for life.
Peer Advisors are lay people, trained by Alternatives, to meet with clients, assess client needs using the Client Intake Sheet, oversee self-directed pregnancy tests and clothing visits. The advisor has the opportunity to share the love of Christ with each client and their family, to educate on choices for unplanned pregnancies and to engage in other discussions as the opportunity arises.
We do ask for a one day per week commitment, for a minimum of 1 year. Alternatives will train the advisor; there is a $30 one-time fee for a manual, which then belongs to the advisor.
This ministry, staffed by all volunteers, is responsible for keeping the Clothing Room chock full of beautiful clothes, as well as other items, for our clients. Our volunteers sort through new donations, launder & fold clothes, match up outfits and help change over seasonal clothes. They generally keep the Clothing Room running!
Many of our Clothing volunteers work Ix/week; 10-4 but the schedule & times are more flexible in this ministry.
The STI Nurse must be a licensed RN/LPN in good standing. The nurse will be trained by Alternatives and will assess the client's medical and sexual history using the Client History sheet. The nurse performs urine-based chlamydia & gonorrhea testing, HIV testing (blood based/finger poke), gives test results and administers treatment based on protocol. The nurse has the opportunity to discuss SRA (sexual risk avoidance), share the gospel, and encourage healthier behavior with each client.
We do ask for a 1 day per week commitment for a minimum of 1 year. Currently our STI testing is done on Monday & Wednesday from 10-2 and results are Wednesday & Friday from 10-2, by appointment, though we do take walk-ins if we have open appointments. We are looking to expand our services and are interested in offering evening services in the future as well as the ability to provide more walk-in testing and extend the hours of service for STI testing.
The Ultrasound Nurse must be a licensed RN/LPN in good standing. The nurse will complete a medical history with each client, educate on nutrition during pregnancy and fetal development, based on the findings of the sonogram. The ultrasound nurse may also have opportunities to educate clients on abortion, adoption and parenting, smoking cessation etc.
Currently our ultrasounds are held on Tuesday evening, by appointment only. The time commitment is generally 4:30-7:30 (varies somewhat). The ultrasound nurse works anywhere from weekly to one time per month. We do ask for a 1 year commitment. We are looking to expand our ultrasound services to include a daytime option as well.
