Gospel Rescue Mission
What began as a depression-era soup kitchen is now a multi-campus, comprehensive ministry reaching those in our community in need of hope and healing. The Gospel is at the center of our name and at the heart of what we do. We offer shelter, food and a helping hand, but we cannot change a heart. Only God can do that.
KGM has served the community of Kalamazoo MI, offering radical hospitality in Jesus’ name to people who are dealing with hunger, homelessness, abuse, and addiction. We have never been more resolved to see individuals and families have their lives and relationships restored. As you peruse our website, you will recognize that we have added many training programs and resources, to the support already available. We want to ensure that every guest has everything they need to achieve the wholeness they desire.
As we have combined with Kalamazoo Deacons Conference, our ability to offer a broader contingent of services to an increasing number of people has only been strengthened.
While we incorporate the core tenets of Christianity in every aspect of our work, we offer support to people of every faith or no faith. Our goal is for individuals and families to have their lives and relationships restored through the transformative power of the Gospel and be reengaged in meaningful ways within society.
Volunteering here at Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries means feeding the hungry, clothing the needy and being there for those who need a helping hand.
Volunteers will help with many tasks, including serving food, washing dishes, collecting meal trays, sweeping and mopping, and helping to sort and put away incoming food deliveries in our warehouse.
Volunteers at our two thrift stores help receive community donations of gently used clothes, shoes and household goods, along with sorting and organizing them and displaying them out on the sales floor.
Volunteers are needed to help teach, tutor and lead our guests through GED, Career Development, and Life Skills courses. This is a long-term opportunity as each session of classes lasts 10-12 weeks. Volunteer opportunities in our Education Center is a ministry-focused opportunity and require a personal relationship with Jesus and an agreement with our statement of faith.
Volunteers who are handy and willing to assist with whatever’s needed from unclogging toilets to figuring out heating and cooling problems would be a great fit to help our maintenance team.
Volunteers with a heart for those in need can help our staff at night as they check-in people who are staying at KGM, engaging them relationally to provide meaningful conversation, prayer, or assistance. Volunteer opportunities in our Shelter are a ministry-focused opportunity and require a personal relationship with Jesus and an agreement with our statement of faith.
KGM provides a daily chapel service each morning and we are looking for volunteers who would love to provide music, deliver a message, or even help with tech needs like running the slideshow. Volunteer opportunities for chapel services are a ministry-focused opportunity and require a personal relationship with Jesus and an agreement with our statement of faith.
At KDC our Direct Response Servant (DRS) works directly with our guests to help them with whatever it is they are in need of. If you are someone who is great at problem-solving and helping others, we need you! This is a ministry-focused opportunity and requires a personal relationship with Jesus and an agreement with our statement of faith.
